How Coronavirus( covid-19) outbreak affected the Indian smartphone industry?

As global death toll due to the Coronavirus pandemic rises, economies worldwide are experiencing the most difficult times with most businesses forced to shut down and close shops due to the lockdown. The smartphone industry has also not been immune to this development. Although China seems to be recovering from the outbreak, it was the epicentre of Covid-19.

The country is also one among the biggest manufacturers of the  best phone in India. With production halted for a few months, domestic as well as international consumers were unable to purchase devices offline by visiting stores. They could not even do so online, since essential items were put on priority by online retailers.

One of the first effects of Covid-19 on the smartphone market was the cancellation of Mobile World Congress, the  biggest annual event of the mobile industry. In the past years, it has been characterised with grand launches, surprising announcements as well as sneak-peeks into future offerings of renowned brands.

According to a report published by the research firm Strategy Analytics, smartphone shipments accounted for 61.8 million in February 2020 as opposed to 99.2 million same time in 2019, a significant decrease of 38%. The month also marked the highest fall in the global smartphone industry to date, triggered by the spread of Coronavirus. Companies which launched new devices in February such as Samsung’s S20 flagship mobile also saw little or no sales. Apple announced that it would refrain from declaring profit projections due to a constrained supply of iPhones all over the world.

While the supply as well the demand for smartphones came down in China, it witnessed a deep dive in Asia and slowed down in remaining countries. It is understandable since most  countries across the world  imposed curfews, putting their populations in lockdown with tough social distancing rules. All of these factors make it impossible for people to head to stores to buy a smartphone, most of which are closed already.

According to Counterpoint Research, the Indian smartphone industry could lose up to $2 billion as smartphone shipments reduced drastically in the month of March and will continue the same trend for April. With more Coronavirus cases being recorded with every passing day, and the country under lockdown it is highly unlikely that the demand is likely to surge in the coming months.

While March saw a 27% decline in shipments as compared to last year, April is forecasted to see a 60% downfall assuming the lockdown deadline is till April 14. Should it be extended, numbers might come down even further. The entire supply chain of the smartphone market right from revenue generation, sales, payments among others will be impacted.

Consumer demand has already seen a slump with people looking to save money and limiting the purchase of non-essential items such as smartphones. It has become increasingly difficult for smartphone manufacturers to meet ends given that not only manufacturing facilities are shut to prevent community transmission but even transportation is restricted across the nation.

From January to June 2020 smartphone production is likely to go down by 38 to 40% according to IDC India. Interestingly, this period sees 46 per cent of the total smartphone sales on an average in a year. With consumer spending to be muted for the next few months, sales are expected to be flat.

However, those looking for the best phone in India at affordable prices, can do so with easy repayment options and minimal processing fees using the Bajaj Finserv EMI network.  So whether you want to buy the best camera smartphone under 15000 or any other high-end electronic equipment, you can purchase in affordable EMIs from more than 1 lakh partner stores pan India in easy instalments as per your convenience. Isn’t that great?

Published

By

mini laptop

Whether you want to purchase a mini laptop for yourself, or for your kids, these devices are extremely impressive and pack a serious punch. Unlike normal laptops that usually sport a display size between 14 – 17 inches, mini laptops have displays that are less than 12 inches. These devices are perfect for regular travelers as well as kids, as they keep them engaged.

Furthermore, numerous brands offer mini laptops, while these laptops are either convertible or non-convertible. That is, you can either separate the display from the keyboard, or the keyboard is non-detachable. Given the fact that you can work on these laptops while commuting, on a plane, or even while waiting for your coffee at a coffee shop, mini laptops have become extremely popular with the consumers.

Having said that, as with everything else, mini laptops also have their disadvantages. We take a look at some of the pros and cons of purchasing a mini laptop, which can help you in making an informed decision about purchasing a mini laptop model.

Pros:

Greater Convenience

Mini laptops, given their compact size and weight, are ultra-portable and offer greater convenience. Whether you have to carry them while travelling in a train or a bus, or if you want to work at a coffee shop nearby, mini laptops are extremely versatile and easy to carry. Some of the best laptops in India that come with compact size and weight include Lenovo Miix 320 (80XF00DFIN) Netbook, and the Microsoft Surface Go (MHN-00015) Laptop.

Less Expensive

Given the fact that mini laptops are extremely small and compact, they are also less expensive than ordinary laptops. The fact that these are inexpensive also makes mini-laptops the ideal devices for students, along with kids that like watching cartoons on laptops or mobile handsets.

Longer Battery Life

Most of the mini-laptops come with longer battery lives, as they do not have to run heavy applications that consume a lot of power. Whether you want to edit documents or prepare presentations, you can bank on mini laptops without having to carry its charger around, which also makes them extremely reliable.

Cons:

Smaller Screen

A small screen obviously makes it hard for us to work on our laptops. Not only that, but we cannot see videos clearly on mini laptops, as they come with smaller displays. Some might see it as just a minor inconvenience, but mini laptops also carry smaller keyboards, which can make it difficult to type on the laptop.

Low Storage Capacity

Considering the fact that mini-laptops do not have much space to carry large HDDs, they come with low storage capacity. For instance, the Samsung Chromebook XE500C13-S03US Laptop comes with just 16GB SSD storage, while other laptops like Asus Chromebook C223NA-DH02 Laptop come with 32GB SSD storage.

Cannot Play Games or Use Heavy Software

The majority of the mini laptops come with either 4GB DDR4 RAM or 2GB DDR4 RAM. Furthermore, most of the budget-friendly mini laptops come with dual-core processors. These specs make it almost impossible to either play games on mini-laptops or use heavy software, such as Adobe Photoshop or Premiere Pro. Mini laptops are ideal for those that are constantly on the road and want to either edit documents, surf the web, or get their personal work done.

Upgrade Your Appliances this Deepavali with Unbeatable Deals and Discounts on the EMI Network

Published

on

By

It is common for all of us as consumers to think about replacing our old home appliances with newer models. With Diwali offers being announced, we can’t help but look at the hordes of offers advertised in newspapers, magazines, and on various sites.

The Diwali offers on home appliances by various e-commerce portals include heavy discount offers on many products like water purifiers, mixer grinders, air coolers, washing machines etc., besides the cashback offers on some others. The offline sellers have also reduced prices on many of their products at par with e-commerce platforms, while waving off shipping charges on purchases made above Rs. 1000. There are many people that wait eagerly for the Diwali offers to open doors to new purchases.

Converting Expenses to EMIs

It is a common norm to buy online using a credit card or debit card. Paying through cards means that you either agree to have the money debited from your savings or current account, or are inclined to turn the expenses into a liability that you have to pay later. While the former involves instant deduction from your account, the latter incurs interest on non-payment of the amount within the stipulated period.

To avoid the unnecessary financial burden, many people now use the EMI Network to convert the purchase amount into equated monthly instalments (EMIs). The pre-approved loan up to Rs. 4 lakh on the card allows you to buy some of the most technologically advanced home appliances with updated features. Cardholders are allowed the flexibility to repay the amount between 3 and 24 months. The ‘No Cost EMI’ feature means that Bajaj Finserv neither charges towards interest nor towards the down payment.

Buy Now & Pay Later

Most offline partner sites of Bajaj Finserv including Chroma, Reliance Digital, Vijay Sales etc. offer the ‘Buy Now & Pay Later’ benefit to their customers availing the Diwali offers on home appliances. This is also true for some of the most sought after online portals like Amazon India, Flipkart, Snapdeal, Shop Clues, and more wherein the ‘No Cost EMI’ offer translates to hassle-free shopping. Moreover, buying home appliances for your home and loved ones during this pandemic, in times of this cash crunch scenario has prompted many people to pay via EMIs over flexible tenors than swipe your card to add to your liability. You may also upgrade your old appliances with the Bajaj Finserv EMI Network Card.

Apply for an EMI Network Card

Applying for the card is easy, as all you must do is submit a canceled cheque, KYC documents along with a signed ECS mandate at any of Bajaj Finserv’s partner stores. Alternatively, you may also apply online for the card on the ‘Experia’ portal. It does not take more than eight weeks to get the card. The digital nomads can get their EMI Network Card in your Bajaj Finserv Wallet app. All you need is a regular income source to get the card, while a good CIBIL score is a must if you want to increase the pre-approved loan amount on your card for increased purchases.
